West Indies legend and former MI batting star Kieron Pollard took a step back from the Indian Premier League (IPL) when Mumbai Indians refused to retain him last year. Pollard, meanwhile, showcased his loyalty and opted to retire from the league instead of heading into auction.

Having said that, Mumbai Indians' management touched fans' wrong nerves when they replaced Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as the skipper of MI for the near future.

The shocking and unanticipated move caught the fans' by surprise as many stood by Rohit to lash out at the franchise management for undermining Sharma's loyalty towards the team.

MI's power scuffle caused a massive uproar amongst fans on social media as many protested by pulling out support and burning the franchise's jerseys and other merchandise.

Pollard Backs Rohit Amid Power Struggle With MI?

While the matter was doused off, Kieron Pollard reignited the loyalty debate by sharing a cryptic post on his official Instagram handle. The former cricketer shared a quote that suggests that loyalty ends when the benefit stops.

Many fans speculate the true intention behind Pollard's cryptic tweet. A majority of the lot believe that Pollard's post was meant to highlight Rohit Sharma's standoff with Mumbai Indians.

Kieron Pollard and Rohit Sharma were close friends as they bonded playing while for MI for several years in IPL. However, both of them met ill fate as MI sidelined them one by one, thus demeaning their loyalty towards the franchise.

Nonetheless, Pollard and Sharma still continue to associate with MI. While Sharma will serve as an explosive opening batter, Pollard continues to serve as the official batting coach.

That being said, the loyalty debate surrounding Rohit Sharma and MI is unlikely to end anytime soon. As the impending IPL season inches closer, MI fans are still not over Hardik Pandya's appointment as the captain of the esteemed team.

It would be interesting to see how much support MI manages to garner from its fans this coming pivotal season.
