India's consistency in Tests can be highlighted by the fact that the Asian giants played two consecutive World Test Championship Finals (2021 and 2023), which unfortunately could not be won.

During the same period, they almost won a series in England and notched a historic victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under versus Australia, while also losing the World Cup 2023 Final and bowing out of T20 World Cup 2021 and 2022 editions without any titles.

India's lack of ICC trophies prompted former England captain Michael Vaughan to slam India for being an 'underachieving' team after they suffered a shambolic defeat against South Africa in the Centurion Test.

After India fought back and blew Proteas away in the Cape Town Test, drawing the series, ace Test spinner Ravichandran Ashwin responded to Vaughan.

Talking on his YouTube channel, the second-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests, Ashwin stated despite a lack of titles in the cabinet, Team India have been the powerhouse of cricket, while winning Tests overseas as well.

Frankly, it made me laugh - Ashwin

“Michael Vaughan made a statement after the first Test that India is an underachieving team. Yes, we haven’t won ICC trophies for years. We call ourselves the powerhouses of the game. But India’s Test team has been one of the best travelling teams in the vicinity. We have seen many great results. After he (Vaughan) said that, so many experts from our own country started questioning if India is an underachieving team. Frankly, it made me laugh,”

Meanwhile, Ashwin's next international assignment will be against England, who will visit India for a five-Test series
