With a place in the finale on the line, Pakistan have made some bold changes as they revealed their playing XI for the tri-series clash against South Africa. With New Zealand already in the finale, the match between Pakistan and South Africa will be a virtual knockout clash on Wednesday.
Interestingly, the Pakistan team made a bold decision by dropping the out of form, Kamran Ghulam from the playing XI and have replaced him with Saud Shakeel. It is expected that with Shakeel in the side, he will open alongside Fakhar Zaman and Babar will get back to his usual number 3 spot.
Also, with Haris Rauf ruled out, Mohammad Hasnain comes in his place, which would mean no place for Akif Javed in the playing XI.
Why Ghulam was dropped?
Ghulam has been a disappointment in the ODIs so far, with the batter averaging just 30, and scoring only 210 runs in 11 matches. In the last game against New Zealand, Ghulam failed to deliver the goods and was dismissed for a paltry 18 off 32 in a game where Pakistan needed 331 runs to win.
Will Saud Shakeel open?
It is expected that Saud Shakeel will open alongside Fakhar Zaman. Pakistan need solidity at the top of the order and Saud will provide that for the Pakistan side. He is a composed player and will compliment Fakhar Zaman well.
Also, Mohammad Hasnain is expected to play a big role, especially now with Haris Rauf ruled out as well.
