Pakistan have suffered a massive blow as their star pacer was ruled out of the ODI tri-series tournament due to a muscle sprain injury. Rauf bowled just 6.2 overs in the ODI match Vs New Zealand before he was taken off the field due to the injury. As per reports, he is likely to miss the tri-nation tournament, but will get fit for Champions Trophy.

As per reports, PCB has finalised Akif Javed as his replacement for the remainder of the tournament and the bowler is likely to play against South Africa in the virtual eliminator Vs South Africa.

Rauf is an exceptional bowler and even though he will take part in the Champions Trophy, Pakistan will miss his services in the tri-series and here's why.

1) Excellent ODI stats since 2024

The fast bowler boasts impeccable ODI record since 2024 and has won countless matches for his team in the 50-over format. Since 2024, he has played in 9 matches and has picked up 14 wickets, which also included a five-wicket haul.

He was crucial in Pakistan's away series win Vs Australia last year and the Pakistan team will miss his services against South Africa, a team he has dominated in ODI format.

2) No death overs specialist apart from Rauf

In Rauf's absence, there is no death overs specialist in the squad. Shaheen Afridi, Akif Javed and Naseem Shah are all new ball bowlers, and have the tendency to go for runs in the slog overs. Rauf was their only experienced bowler in the last 10 overs, and with him missing, Pakistan are bound to concede runs, something which could hamper their chances in the tournament.

3) One bowler who instilled fear in opposition

Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah are skilled bowlers, but they lack the cutting-edge which Rauf has. He can be deceptive and has a brilliant short ball as batters fear taking him on.

He is Pakistan's quickest bowler and the express pacer tends to keep the batters on their toes, something which the other lack in the bowling department. Hence, Pakistan could be vulnerable in the game Vs South Africa.
