Ahead of the Champions Trophy, England suffered a major injury jolt with their star batter, Jacob Bethell getting ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury. Bethell, played in the first ODI against India, but was officially ruled out of the tournament as he suffered a serious injury.

With just one week left for the Champions Trophy, England had a tough task in hand, but it seems they have finalised Bethell's replacement in the squad. Forgotten star, Tom Banton, who had a brilliant ILT20 recently was called up to the ODI squad for the third ODI Vs India, but it seems he will fly to Pakistan for the mega event.

As per a report by The Telegraph, England have submitted to the ICC to officially replace the injured Bethell with Banton. The opening batter has reached India and is likely to play the series finale, the report added.

What happened to Jacob Bethell?

The young prodigy was England's best player in the first ODI loss for them. He score a gritty 51 and also took a wicket, but despite his efforts, England crumbled and lost the match.

The exact status of his injury is yet to be disclosed by ECB, but it is assumed that during the first ODI match, the player sustained the injury and was ruled out of the tournament.

Chance for Banton to revive his career

Banton has just played 6 ODIs for England and his career has been underwhelming. The batter scored just 134 runs, at an average of 26, and was eventually dropped from the team. He showcased his skills in the recently concluded ILT20 and slammed two centuries. As a result, the ECB decided to rope in Banton for the ICC event.
