Jhye Richardson gets a rare opportunity to push for a Test claim as he has been called up by the Australian team management to bowl in the nets ahead of the upcoming third Ashes fixture against England at the Adelaide Oval. Richardson, who made his Test debut back in January 2019, has played just three Tests for Australia up until his final appearance in December 2021.
Jhye Richardson will now be expected to bowl alongside the likes of Mitchell Starc and national captain Pat Cummins in the Australian camp, at an expense of his opening BBL appearance for the Perth Scorchers.
Richardson to miss Perth Scorchers opener as Test recall gets a fresh lifeline
Turning up for Australia A in Brisbane earlier this month, Jhye Richardson decimated England Lions with an electrifying four-wicket haul on Day 1. Apart from collecting figures of 4-35 in his 12 overs, the speedster also snared the important wicket of Nathan Gilchrist in the second innings to claim five for the match.
Jhye Richardson’s four-day performance against England Lions has prompted the Australian team management to call him up into the national camp ahead of the third Test of the 2025-26 Ashes series. Tasked to bowl in the nets with several other Australian fast bowlers, the 29-year-old now has a golden chance of pushing his claim for a possible Test recall.
The lanky Western Australian pacer played his last Test for Australia exactly four years ago at the Adelaide Oval against England during the 2021-22 Ashes. Despite picking up a match-winning five-fer at the time, the then 25-year-old was dropped from the national XI over the return of Pat Cummins.
As Jhye Richardson makes a case for himself for Australian Test return, the cricketer is set to miss the first match for the Perth Scorchers in the upcoming BBL 2025-26 season.
