As the world is experiencing a thrilling T20 series against India and South Africa, another exciting series is loading for the Men in Blue. In January 2026, they will face New Zealand in a five-match T20I series, keeping the T20 World Cup preparation in mind.

With the Big Bash League heating up and the T20I series kicking off, New Zealand could face a major dilemma. As the BBL final is scheduled in January 2025, Finn Allen could miss the T20I series due to the BBL commitment.

BBL final puts Finn Allen’s availability against India in doubt

After a while, the Big Bash League is returning with yet another thrilling season, and the world is waiting for some unreal T20 thrills. But along with that, another thrilling T20 series is coming up as India is set to face New Zealand in a five-match T20I series on home soil. The potential clash between the BBL final and the series might be a big setback for the Kiwis.

Ace Kiwi batter Finn Allen is set to don the Perth Scorchers jersey in the upcoming BBL, and due to this, his availability in the T20I series against India has become doubtful. The T20I series begins on January 21, and the BBL final is scheduled on January 25. If Perth Scorchers play the final, Allen will be a big miss from the Kiwi squad.

Just ahead of the T20 World Cup, the T20I series will be crucial for both sides. Finn Allen’s availability hangs in the balance; if the Perth Scorchers miss the BBL final, he could play the full series, and despite the uncertainty, he’s brimming with confidence

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, he said, “Pending selection, I'll head straight to India once the Big Bash finishes up for us [Scorchers].”

Representing the nation sparks pure pride

Over the years, New Zealand stunned the cricket world with some amazing talents, and Finn Allen is one of them. Known for his hard-hitting style, he has already played 52 matches for the Kiwis and piled up 1285 runs. After last donning the Black Caps jersey in March, Allen is putting his hope high, ready to make a strong comeback to the squad.

“Playing for New Zealand is still, for me, the pinnacle, and the reason why I love playing is to represent my country. But cricket's obviously evolving and changing year on year. New Zealand Cricket's been really good to work with over the last wee while. [I'm] confident about getting back into some Black Caps stuff after the Big Bash and hopefully can continue that,” Allen said.

After wrapping up a three-match ODI series, starting on January 11, Team India will meet New Zealand in a thrilling T20I series, starting on January 21. Once that battle ends, both teams will shift focus to the 2026 T20 World Cup, chasing the coveted trophy.
