BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed there will be "serious implications" for India's registered international, domestic, and 'A' level cricketers for skipping the Ranji Trophy, India's premier domestic first-class competition, and any other senior red-ball tournament organised by the Indian board unless injured.

In his letter under the possession of Indian Express, which had been offing since the BCCI decided to issue an indirect warning to curious absentee Ishan Kishan, Shah reinforced to players on Friday (February 16) that domestic cricket remains a "critical yardstick for selection."

The reason why the communication letter has been issued with the utmost seriousness and understanding of the circumstances is the ongoing trend of prominent players missing matches for their state sides at the height of the Ranji season.

Jay Shah Issues Letter Of Warning To Ranji Absentees

"There is a recent trend that has started to emerge and is a cause for concern. Some players have begun prioritising the IPL over domestic cricket, a shift that was not anticipated. Domestic cricket has always been the foundation upon which Indian cricket stands, and it has never been undervalued in our vision for the sport," Shah wrote in his letter as unveiled by Indian Express.

"Our vision for Indian cricket has been clear from the outset – every cricketer aspiring to play for India must prove themselves in domestic cricket. Performance in domestic cricket remains a critical yardstick for selection and non-participation in domestic cricket will carry severe implications," he added.

Despite reports of the warning letter being imminent, Kishan skipped Jharkhand's final round league stage fixture that started the same day the letter was officially issued by Shah.

The cricketer's absence continues to raise speculations about whether he is carrying a rift in his head with the team management over his intermittent presence in the playing XI.

However, coach Rahul Dravid had brushed aside those allegations and said Kishan needs to make himself available first and play some form of cricket to be re-selected.
