Play 3-4 Ranji Games To Be Eligible For IPL: BCCI Set To Issue Notice After Ishan Kishan Fallout

In another jolt to India's young, dynamic batter Ishan Kishan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has pulled the screws for all the players who have been avoiding Ranji Trophy for a while.

The news comes as a response to Ishan's handling of his international commitment as he backed out of a crucial series against South Africa and England, causing the apex board to take the decision against him. The notice will also be issued to all the other players, asking them to feature in at least 3-4 games before the next season's IPL.

For this season, Kishan has been asked to play Jharkhand's remaining game against Rajasthan in Jamshedpur from February 16th.

BCCI's directive could ask players to play a handful of games before every season to be eligible for the IPL from next year onwards, said a source from the board.

"The decision makers in BCCI are well aware that some players don't want to play any red ball cricket. If they are out of Indian team, they would at best play a few Mushtaq Ali T20 games and then not report for state team duty during red ball season.

"To rein in such players, the board, in all likelihood, will make it mandatory to play 3-4 Ranji Trophy games, failing which, they can't play IPL or even appear in IPL auction if released by their franchise. The state units feel unless the diktat comes from top of BCCI, some of the young stars will treat the Ranji Trophy with disdain."

This comes after Kishan was seen training with Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya in Baroda with indications that he might directly feature in the IPL for Mumbai Indians beginning March end.

Further, Hardik's case is seen with ease as he has been given relaxation from red-ball cricket to feature in white-ball events of primary importance for India.

"We can understand Hardik Pandya's case as his body can't take the rigours of red ball cricket. He can't withstand the workload of Test cricket and India needs him fit for ICC events. But some of the other youngsters, whenever you call them, they will cite that they are currently doing physio work. There needs to be a stop somewhere,"

Further, it was revealed that there has been no debate regarding Ishan's Grade C central contract worth ₹1 Crore.

"No discussions have taken place as of now regarding central contracts."

It would be quite a story to know if Ishan turns out for his state side, Jharkhand, or if he only makes a comeback in the IPL.
