BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has made an exciting announcement, unveiling the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' for Senior Men's cricketers. Under this scheme, Test cricketers will now receive an additional incentive of INR 15 lakhs each.

This scheme, announced shortly after Team India's victory in the fifth Test in Dharamsala,  serves as a significant financial boost for the players representing the Test team. Jay Shah took to Twitter to announce the launch of the scheme, expressing his pleasure in providing financial growth and stability to the esteemed athletes.

He stated that the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' would be implemented from the 2022-23 season, offering an additional reward structure alongside the existing match fee for Test matches, set at INR 15 lakhs.

“I am pleased to announce the initiation of the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' for Senior Men, a step aimed at providing financial growth and stability to our esteemed athletes. Commencing from the 2022-23 season, the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' will serve as an additional reward structure on top of the existing match fee for Test matches, set at INR 15 lakhs,”  Jay Shah Tweeted.

As per the proposed structure, players who have participated in more than 50 per cent of Tests in a season since 2022-23 will see their match fees doubled per game. For instance, a player who features in 5-6 Tests in a nine-match season will receive INR 30 lakhs per match, doubling the regular match fee of INR 15 lakhs.

Similarly, players who appear in at least 75 per cent of matches in a cycle will see their salary increase from 22.5 lakhs per match to 45 lakhs.

This initiative follows the recent Ishan Kishan-BCCI saga, in which the salary scheme was restructured in response to the keeper-batter's decision to prioritise IPL preparation over domestic cricket.

This incident prompted the BCCI secretary to introduce measures aimed at motivating more cricketers to participate in the longest format of the game.

The 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' has been in operation since the 2022-23 season and promises substantial monetary benefits for Indian Test players, further incentivising their participation and performance in Test cricket.
