The Asia Cup 2025 is all set to begin on September 9, and the Oman Cricket Board has now announced the 17-member squad for the marquee event. The 36-year-old Jatinder Singh is the captain, and the squad consists of a good blend of youth and experience.
The squad includes four uncapped players - Sufyan Yousaf, Nadeem Khan, Zikriya Islam and Faisal Shah, which shows that the upcoming Asia Cup is the start of a new era in Oman Cricket. However, there are experienced players like Mohammed Nadeem and Karan Sonavale in the squad who would have to take more responsibility.
Oman Get Ready For First-Ever Asia Cup With A Young Squad
Oman has played in the three T20 World Cups before, namely in 2016, 2021 and 2024. However, this is the first time that they are featuring in the Asia Cup and are placed alongside India, Pakistan and the UAE in Group A.
Thus, it is expected to be a big challenge for Oman, which is starting afresh after the T20 World Cup 2024 payment crisis. Oman last played T20Is in the Gulf T20I Championship, where they could win just two out of their five matches, losing games against UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
