Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has called out national head coach Gautam Gambhir ahead of team India’s planned Asia Cup 2025 fixtures against Pakistan in the UAE. Tiwary highlighted that Gambhir himself had previously insisted India should never face Pakistan, making his stance ahead of the Asia Cup a glaring contradiction.

The cricketer-turned-politician also criticised the Indian head coach for dropping dynamic opener Yashasvi Jaiswal from the T20I team, despite Gambhir earlier proclaiming Jaiswal as the future of Indian cricket and a vital cornerstone in the team’s long-term T20 plans.

Manoj Tiwary Wants Gautam Gambhir To Resign

Manoj Tiwary has slammed Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir for not opposing India’s planned fixtures against Pakistan at the 2025 Asia Cup. During an exclusive interview with Crictracker, Tiwary claimed that Gambhir should resign from his post to back his own earlier stance of boycotting geopolitical rivals Pakistan in cricket.

He said:

“I always felt that he's someone who is a hypocrite. He's a hypocrite because he's the one who said, when he was not the coach of Team India, that India and Pakistan should never play a match between them. What will he do now? He's the coach of the team that's going to play Pakistan in the Asia Cup. Why can't he just resign and say that I will not be part of the team India because you are playing with Pakistan?”

Manoj Tiwary also questioned Gautam Gambhir for dropping Yashasvi Jaiswal from the Indian team this Asia Cup 2025, even though the head coach himself had described the dynamic young opener as the “future of Team India” in T20 cricket. He added:

“Gambhir’s the one who said that Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the players who is the future of Team India, and also he's someone who will not be kept outside T20. He should not be kept outside T20. He should be given a longer run. And now, he's not there in the team. So, a lot of things apart from these couple of statements where he said, and he has just done the opposite. So, I always felt that he's a hypocrite, and he's always been a hypocrite.”

Team India is scheduled to face Pakistan at least once this upcoming Asia Cup 2025 in the UAE on September 14. The two nations might end up facing each other two more times in the tournament, once each in the Super Four round and in the final depending upon their progression.
