India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is back at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, as per reports. After visiting the facility over a week ago, the Mumbai Indians pacer has returned to check his fitness for the upcoming IPL and to get clearance to play.
Whether he will be available for the full tournament or just a part of it will be decided based on this visit. This is his second trip to the NCA in a short time.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Recovery Progress
During his last visit, Bumrah reportedly felt some pain and discomfort while bowling. Seeing this, the NCA management suggested some specific exercises and asked him to return later for another assessment. However, this time, there is more hope that his condition has improved.
If he can bowl comfortably without pain, he might get the green light to play in the IPL. But as things stand, it will likely take at least another week for him to be fully match-fit. This means he could miss Mumbai Indians’ first three games of the season.
When Did Jasprit Bumrah Get Injured?
The MI star bowler suffered a back injury during the final Test against Australia. Doctors advised him to take five weeks of rest, but he was racing against time to get fit for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.
Initially, he was included in India’s provisional squad for the tournament, announced by Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar in January. However, after scans in early February showed continued discomfort, he had to be removed from the final squad.
This is the first time since March 2023 that Bumrah has had a back-related injury. Back then, he underwent surgery and had to miss IPL 2023, along with the ICC World Test Championship Final, where India lost to Australia.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their tournament opener match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 23.
