In a recent development, New Zealand has announced their ODI squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies. The two teams are currently engaged in a five-match T20I series, after which they will play a three-match ODI series starting on November 16.
Interestingly, the squad sees former captain Kane Williamson miss out, while Mitchell Santner also leaves the side. The squad includes names such as Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, and Devon Conway.
Williamson to prepare for Test series against Windies
Williamson, who announced his retirement from T20Is earlier this month, will focus on the ICC World Test Championship series against the West Indies starting December 2, as the Black Caps are also set to play a three-match Test series.
Notably, the Black Caps will be boosted by the return of key pacer Matt Henry, while players like Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Will O’Rourke, and Dane Phillips remain sidelined due to injuries. However, Blair Tickner has retained his place in the squad following his impressive performances against England.
Walter happy to have Tickner
New Zealand coach Rob Walter praised Tickner’s efforts, saying he fully deserves his place in the ODI squad.
"We couldn’t have asked for more from Ticks against England. He brought plenty of energy, and his pace and bounce proved to be a big test for some of the best batters in the world. It was pleasing to see him come in at short notice and perform at that level," Walter said.
Besides Tickner, regular names such as Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham, and Kyle Jamieson have also been included, with Nathan Smith once again making the cut. The first ODI against the West Indies is scheduled for November 16 in Christchurch, with live action starting from 6:30 AM IST.
