The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have named former captain Salman Butt to the national selection panel ahead of Pakistan's five-match T20I series against New Zealand next year.
Butt, who returned to cricket in 2016 after serving a five-year sentence for spot-fixing, has been named along with former teammates Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar Anjum as consultant members to the recently-appointed chief selector, Wahab Riaz.
The former Pakistan captain was suspended by the International Cricket Council for five years due to his involvement in the infamous spot-fixing scandal during the Pakistan tour of England back in August 2010.
After making a comeback to cricket in 2016, Butt found success as a batter and captain in domestic competitions but was consistently overlooked for the national team. Eventually, he decided to retire from cricket in 2020, relinquishing his hopes of a national team comeback.
With his recent appointment to the Pakistan Cricket Board selection panel, there has been a diverse range of fan reactions to this news.
