Pakistan’s newly appointed Test captain, Shan Masood, has opened up on Babar Azam's batting position, discussing the team's strategy for the upcoming Test series against Australia and emphasizing the former captain’s integral role in it.

Masood stated that Babar is the linchpin of Pakistan's batting order, and the team intends to structure their approach around him during the upcoming three-match Test series against Australia.

Babar stepped down from the captaincy across all three formats, following Pakistan's disappointing performance in the 2023 World Cup. Pakistan, finishing fifth in the points table, failed to qualify for the knockout stage.

Later, Shaheen Afridi has taken over the T20I captaincy, and Shan Masood is now leading the Test team. Here’s what Shan Masood said in the pre-departure press conference:

“Babar Azam is the best batter in the side and you build your team around your best batter so his position will not be tinkered with.”

The trend of whitewashes in their past five tours of Australia presents a formidable challenge for Pakistan, as they strive to break the pattern with Shan Masood being at helm and secure their first Test series win down under. Highlighting the significance of the series, Masood conceded:

“When you haven't done something before in history you have an opportunity to go out there and try to change it. That's what we're trying to do.”

The much-anticipated first Test between Pakistan and Australia is set to kick off on December 14 in Perth with the remaining two matches set to take place in Melbourne and Sydney.
