When Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines by securing a massive INR 1.10 crore deal with Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2025 mega auction, it sparked widespread intrigue. As one of the youngest cricketers to break into such a mega-tournament, the natural question that followed was: Can Vaibhav Suryavanshi actually play in the IPL at his age? And more importantly, is he eligible to represent India at the international level?

Can Vaibhav Suryavanshi Play Legally For India?

It is important to mention that, the ICC has set age restrictions for players to participate in international cricket. According to rules, the minimum age required to play in cricket is 15 years. This rule is primarily in place to ensure players have the physical maturity and mental development to compete at the highest levels.

Since Vaibhav is currently 13 and not yet 15, he is technically not eligible to play in international cricket for India. However, there is a catch; if BCCI wish to select him for national duties, can request special permission from the ICC to allow him to represent India. This scenario, though rare, is not entirely of possibility. In summary, while Vaibhav may not yet be eligible to play at the senior international level due to age restrictions. 

Can Vaibhav Suryavanshi Play In IPL 2025?

The next big question is, can Vaibhav Suryavanshi actually play in the IPL 2025 at the age of 13? The simple answer is yes. The IPL does not have a formal minimum age requirement for players. However, there are a few conditions that still apply to his eligibility.

The primary rule in the IPL relates to prior experience in first-class or List-A cricket. According to the IPL guidelines, players must have a record of having represented their respective state teams in either First-Class cricket or List-A cricket before they are eligible to play in the tournament. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already featured for Bihar in the domestic circuit, which means he ticks this requirement for participating in the IPL 2025.
