IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has confirmed that the BCCI will conduct a review on the pay disparity observed during the mini-auction. The objective is to prevent runaway bids similar to the 24.75 crores bid for Starc in the mini-auction. Dhumal mentioned that several ideas have been proposed, and the BCCI is scheduled to discuss them with franchises.

It's become increasingly common for some players to skip the mega auction and instead register themselves in the mini auction of the IPL.

This trend is driven by the fact that players in the mini auction often command higher prices, as franchises need to fill fewer slots. Consequently, franchises are willing to spend more money to secure the players they want. As a result, many players, especially overseas players, opt to register in the mini auction to maximize their earnings.

Mitchell Starc earned 24.75 crores, setting a record price for a player in the IPL. Had he been bought in the main auction, he likely wouldn't have received half the amount, as franchises prioritize spending on Indian players and filling other slots.

"We have taken note of the pay disparity it creates. We will definitely conduct a review and come out with a new policy to address the issue,” IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said in an interview ahead of the 17th edition of the league starting on Friday.

What is evident is that the IPL is not considering adopting the draft method used in The Hundred or the BBL. Instead, the BCCI is likely to implement an individual price cap for players.

With the mega auction looming next year, significant changes are expected for both franchises and players.
