Pakistan stars Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan went unselected at the 2024 Men’s The Hundred draft on Wednesday, March 20. England’s 2019 World Cup winning member Jason Roy was also overlooked by all franchises at the player’s draft after he was released by reigning champions Oval Invincibles.

Pakistan pace mavericks Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, on the other hand, were the top draws for Welsh Fire and Birmingham Phoenix respectively; with several West Indies stars also making much headlines at the men’s drafting event.

Babar Azam, David Warner go unpicked

Babar Azam, David Warner and Jason Roy were among the notable omissions by all franchises at the Men’s The Hundred 2024 season draft in London on March 20.

Babar’s national teammates Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, however, were roped in by Welsh Fire and Birmingham Phoenix respectively.

A number of West Indies T20 juggernauts, including Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell, were among the top-bracket picks in the draft, with both cricketers joining Southern Brave and London Spirit respectively.

Russell will also be joined by fellow national Shimron Hetmyer at Spirit; while Nicholas Pooran will play for Northern Superchargers and Rovman Powell was the top pick for Trent Rockets.

England’s wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Kohler-Cadmore was a top-earner at Welsh Fire, where he will be joining Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi. Fellow Englishmen Laurie Evans moved to Southern Brave while top-order batsman Dawid Malan was signed in by the Oval Invincibles.

England fast bowler Richard Gleeson and Test vice-captain Ollie Pope joined London Spirit. Manchester Originals recruited Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza and Afghanistan fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi in their quest for 2024 Men’s The Hundred title.

The Hundred 2024 season will launch with a match between Birmingham Phoenix and defending champions Oval Invincibles on July 23 at The Oval in London.

As per the schedule unveiled by the ECB earlier this year, the eight-team men’s event will run from July 23 till August 18 across eight different English venues.
