The Australians have robbed the bank of the IPL in this year's Auctions, as Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins have together earned more than INR 45 Crore, and both of them were the record-breaking buys in the history of IPL. The desperation of teams to buy the fast bowlers was unmatchable, which has resulted in landing the four fast bowlers in the list of most expensive buys of the season.

Let's have a look at the top five most expensive buys of the IPL season 2024.

Mitchell Starc - 24.75 Crore (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Mitchell Starc, the Australian seamer, have flooded the Indian Premier League's market by becoming the most expensive buy ever in the history of the prestigious league. After eight long years, he made himself available for the IPL 2024, and he was bought by his former franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders at a whopping sum of INR 24.75 Crore.

Starc was a part of the RCB team in the 2014 and 2015 seasons and he made a comeback in the Auctions when KKR brought him for INR 9.80 Crore in 2018, but unfortunately, he could not play a single game owing to the injury. He has made a comeback in style, bagging a huge deal and will be featuring in the IPL 2024 for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Pat Cummins - 20.50 Crore (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

The Australian captain, Pat Cummins is having a great year, having led the team to victory in the World Test Championship and the World Cup 2023. Now that he is up for the next challenge of the T20 World Cup 2024, he made himself available for the upcoming season of the IPL. His name in the Auctions created a bidding war between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were looking for a captain face as well as a fast bowler, went all in for the right-arm Australian seamer and bagged his services for another record-breaking amount of INR 20.50 Crore. In Pat Cummins, they have got a world-class seamer, who has the potential to hit some long balls and will be a perfect face for the Orange Army.

Daryl Mitchell - 14.00 Crore (Chennai Super Kings)

The Kiwi all-rounder, Daryl Mitchell has been an amazing asset for the New Zealand side irrespective of the format. He has been a key player for his team in the ICC tournaments and has the special skills of taking the team out of difficult situations. He was a part of the Rajasthan Royals but did not get the opportunity to showcase his skills.

Having released a few players, including Ben Stokes, Chennai Super Kings were looking for an all-rounder with seam bowling skills and they have got the exact player they wanted in Daryl Mitchell for whom they went all in and paid INR 14 Crore in order to acquire his services for the upcoming season. So the Kiwi all-rounder will be seen donning the yellow in the IPL 2024.

Harshal Patel - 11.75 Crore (Punjab Kings)

Harshal Patel had a near-perfect season back in 2021 while playing for RCB when he was bought for 50 Lakhs, he took 32 wickets, which is the joint-highest in a single season in the history of IPL, got a huge sum of 10.75 Crore in the mega Auctions 2022 and played for RCB. But he could not continue to perform the same way and was released after the Ipl 2023.

Being back at the Auctions, no one could have thought that Harshal would eventually go for an amount more than he was playing for in RCB, but Punjab Kings won the bidding war against Lucknow Duper Giants and Gujarat Titans, who were also interested in buying him. In this bidding war, Punjab Kings went all in to grab his services for a whopping sum of INR 11.75 Crore, and thus he will be seen donning the Punjab Kings' colours.

Alzarri Joseph - 11.50 Crore (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

The Caribbean speedster, Alzarri Joseph, who was a part of Gujarat Titans during the last season, but got released after the IPL 2023 and will now be representing the Faf Du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore. The RCB team went all bonkers for the fast bowler, spending a huge sum of INR 11.50 Crore, which also made him one of the top buys in the IPL 2024 Auctions.

RCB were in desperate need of an overseas fast bowler and as they failed to buy Pat Cummins, they did not want Joseph to go another way as well, so they did not hesitate to spend this much on him. Joseph, who was playing for GT for a sum of just INR 2.4 Crore, will not only have the pressure of the price tag but also the pressure of the RCB fan Army. He will be joining the likes of Faf Du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Virat Kohli and Reece Topley.
