England fast bowler Mark Wood has been cleared of his hamstring concerns, and is considered fit to play for his team in the upcoming series-opening first Ashes Test match against Australia next week at the Optus Stadium in Perth. He was given the all-clear by the England team management following a precautionary scan, as reported by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The first Ashes Test match will be played between November 21 and November 25.
BCCI release Shubman Gill injury update
The BCCI has released an official injury update regarding Indian Test captain Shubman Gill. Earlier on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test between India and South Africa, Shubman Gill walked off the field after playing just three balls citing neck spasm. Issuing a press release, the board has confirmed that the cricketer is now being assessed by the BCCI medical team, and a decision regarding his participation in the remainder of the match at the Eden Gardens will only be determined as per his recovery progress.
Rishabh Pant goes past Sehwag for huge Indian record
Rishabh Pant launched two sixes in his 24-ball knock of 27 against South Africa on Day 2 at the Eden Gardens. Through the course of his knock, the blistering wicketkeeper-batter became India’s leading six-hitter in Test cricket, going past Virender Sehwag’s tally of 91 maximums in the format. Notably, Rishabh Pant now has 92 Test sixes to his name in just 83 innings, as opposed to Sehwag’s 180.
Moreover, the cricketer reached the landmark figure in his comeback match for Team India. He also struck two boundaries in the innings to counterattack for India in the middle-order.
Ravindra Jadeja makes it to an exclusive all-round Test club
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored 27 off 45 balls against South Africa on Day 2 of the first Test in Kolkata. The innings helped him scale past 4,000 runs in Test cricket, achieving the feat in his 88th match for Team India. The legendary all-rounder also picked up four South African wickets late in the day to extend his Test tally to 342 wickets.
Ravindra Jadeja has now become only the fourth cricketer in Test history to achieve the all-round double of scoring over 4,000 runs with 300 wickets, joining the likes of Kapil Dev, Ian Botham and Daniel Vettori in a rare club.
