The Punjab Kings franchise reached the final of the IPL 2025 season earlier this year to mark their best performance in over a decade. The result, achieved under the leadership of new and proven captain Shreyas Iyer, prompted the franchise to step away from their usual tendency of carrying out a major squad overhaul for IPL 2026 during the yearly player retention window.

The Punjab Kings franchise retained as many as 20 of their players, including captain Shreyas Iyer and ace fast bowler Arshdeep Singh. The franchise also retained discarded Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, and the likes of Xavier Bartlett, Marcus Stoinis and Lockie Ferguson among overseas attractions.

The Punjab Kings released five cricketers from their squad ahead of the IPL 2026 auction next month. Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was among the biggest name among them, as the cricketer failed to come up clutch in his third coming for the franchise. The Punjab Kings franchise now has a remaining purse of Rs. 11.50 crore that they can utilize in next month’s IPL 2026 auction. The team also has four slots remaining to be filled, including two under the overseas category.
