As many as 16 wickets fell on Day 2 of the India vs South Africa Test as spinners from both sides dictated terms in Kolkata. Simon Harmer and Ravindra Jadeja led the wicket-taking charge for their respective teams as the match heads towards a thrilling low-scoring finish.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of Day 2 of the first Test of the two-match series between India and South Africa, as it panned out at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday, November 15.

Simon Harmer bulldozes India to minimize South Africa’s deficit

Overnight batters KL Rahul and Washington Sundar saw off the opener hour of the day by taking India to 75-1 in 34 overs. Simon Harmer broke through for South Africa with the wicket of Sundar (29 off 82), before Indian captain Shubman Gill hurt his neck and walked off the field.

Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja struck identical 27 in the middle-order, while KL Rahul top-order in the innings with his cautious 39 from 119 balls. For South Africa, Harmer kept poking Indian batters with regular wickets, picking up four of them to claim figures of 4-30. Fast bowler Marco Jansen added two more to his overnight tally to finish with 3-35. Keshav Maharaj and Corbin Bosch also scalped a wicket each as South Africa folded up India for 189 in 62.2 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja takes four as SA lose seven before stumps

Up against a small deficit of 30 runs, South Africa lost both openers, Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram to Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja respectively before reaching the mark. Jadeja also deceived Wiaan Mulder, Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs to finish the day with sensational figures of 4-29 from his 13 overs.

Axar Patel knocked over Kyle Verreynne, and Kuldeep picked up his second in the form of Marco Jansen as South Africa reached 93-7 in 35 overs by stumps. Leading India by just 63 runs, the visitors will resume their second innings on Day 3 with captain Temba Bavuma (29*) still at the crease.
