Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), in search of their maiden IPL trophy, have begun preparations for the IPL 2025 with the season’s scheduled yet to be released. With a new squad at the helm, the Bengaluru-based franchise aims at restarting on a clean slate.
RCB, despite boasting a star-studded lineup, featuring Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, have failed to win an IPL title. They managed to reach the finals numerous times but choked in do-or-die knockout games.
In any case, the IPL 2025 mega auction was a chance for RCB to start from scratch. At the auction table, the management made some questionable decisions. From denying RTM cards to Mohammed Siraj and Glenn Maxwell to buying Krunal Pandya for INR 5.75 crores, the RCB table came under a lot of scrutiny.

Nonetheless, RCB defended its strategy and was happy leaving the auction table. Meanwhile, with IPL 2025 season still 3 months away, an overdetermined RCB have begun preparations. On December 9, the franchise summoned all the players at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for a pre-season camp. Players like Krunal Pandya, Rajat Patidar and many youngsters featured in the camp.
Virat Kohli, currently on tour to Australia, missed the session. He is likely to be reinstated as captain of RCB for IPL 2025 season since the team missed out on big captaincy candidates in the mega auction. Whether or not the over-enthusiastic approach works in their favour, remains to be seen. But the early pre-season camp has definitely caught the fans’ attention.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar describes reunion with RCB
RCB bought veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for INR 10.75 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction. For Bhuvneshwar, it’s a homecoming of sorts as he began his IPL journey with RCB in 2009. Reflecting on the reunion, he thanked the fans for their support and expressed excitement for the upcoming season. Kumar has 14 years of experience in the IPL, where he picked 181 wickets in an economy of 7.56.
