Even before the IPL auction started, Rishabh Pant was a hot commodity as the star India player was expected to go big in the auction pool. When his name was announced, there was a huge roar and rightly so.

The bidding war started between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but as the bid crossed the 10 crore mark, RCB for some bizarre reason decided to back out. Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the list and it was followed by Pant's former IPL side, Delhi Capitals.

How DC fooled LSG In IPL 2025 auction?

The bidding process continued as the price crossed the 20 crore mark and LSG relemtlessly pushed for the India keeper and they finally nailed it as they purchased his services. However, the real surprise came up as Delhi Capitals decided to use the RTM card on him. LSG had the counter as they proposed 27 crores for DC to counter and to everyone's surprise, DC decided not to purchase Pant.

DC owners have had a tactics of increasing the price of marquee players and then backing out. They used the same tactics as when LSG proposed them to match the 27 crore price, DC clearly said no. Despite boasting a stellar record, Rishabh Pant is not a 27 crore buy and DC were smart to understand it as they decided against matching LSG's ask.

Pant likely to lead LSG

With so much amount spend, LSG are likely to appoint Pant as their next captain. With KL Rahul released, LSG needed to replace him and appoint a new captain. Hence, they have their buy aand there is all likelihood that Pant could be appointed the next LSG skipper for 2025 IPL season.
