Rajasthan Royals crashed to their third defeat in succession, this time at the hands of hosts Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in match number 61 of IPL 2024 at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium on May 12.

After Rajasthan Royals struggled their way with the bat upfront, CSK’s batting order, led by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, easily overhauled their task with time and wickets to spare.

Here’s the timeline of how CSK vs RR panned out in Chennai-

CSK vs RR Highlights: Jaiswal, Buttler Stroke Their Way To 42-0

Winning the toss and opting to bat first on a slow Chennai surface, Rajasthan Royals openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler cautiously crafted their way to 42-0 by the end of the powerplay. Both in-form batters shaped more than 20 runs each from their ends to consign six wicketless overs to the CSK bowlers at the top.

CSK vs RR Highlights: Simarjeet Singh Strikes Twice To Fight Back For CSK

After Rajasthan Royals reached 42-0, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad employed fast bowler Simarjeet Singh for the seventh over of the innings. Making instant impact with the ball, the 26-year-old struck off his second delivery of the match by inducing a false stroke from Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Simarjeet also dismissed Jos Buttler in his following over as Rajasthan Royals slipped to 49-2 in a gust of wind.

CSK vs RR Highlights: Parag, Dhruv Jurel Lift RR Up Amidst Declining Rate

Precariously placed at 49-2 in 8.1 overs, Rajasthan Royals captain and in-form batter Sanju Samson failed to lead his side to recovery as he scored a sluggish 15 from 19 balls before becoming Simarjeet Singh’s third wicket of the innings.

Riyan Parag, however, smacked three sixes and shared a fiery 40-run stand with Dhruv Jurel to add some respectability to Rajasthan Royals innings amidst their dwindling run-rate. The all-rounder clubbed 47 unbeaten runs from 35 balls to top-score for his side, while Dhruv produced a quickfire 18-ball 28.

In Rajasthan Royals’ relentless quest for runs in the final over, CSK’s Tushar Deshpande seized two wickets from two balls before the visitors finished at 141-5 by the completion of their innings.

CSK vs RR Highlights: Ravindra, Mitchell And Dube Slap Quick Cameos

Chasing 142 for a win, CSK opener Rachin Ravindra launched a couple of huge sixes inside the powerplay to score an 18-ball 27 before he was caught-and-bowled by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Daryl Mitchell at number three also struck four boundaries in his 13-ball 22 while Shivam Dube scored a quick 18 from 11 balls. Their collective belligerence helped CSK soar past the 100-run mark in less than 14 overs.

CSK vs RR Highlights: Ruturaj Gaikwad Steers CSK To An Easy Win

Following the dismissal of Shivam Dube at the hands of Ravichandran Ashwin at 107-4, lower-order batter Sameer Rizvi produced three boundaries in his eight-ball 15-run unbeaten cameo. Opening batsman and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (42* off 41 balls) remained defiant in his approach and sealed the run-chase for his team with five wickets and 10 balls to spare.
