In Rishabh Pant's absence, stand-in skipper Axar Patel led Delhi Capitals from the front as his stunning half-century saved them from embarrassment in their thirteenth group-stage IPL 2024 game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, he couldn't get the Capitals past the finish line, with Faf du Plessis' acrobatic catch putting an end to his stay in the middle. 

The incident occurred during the 16th over of DC's innings when Axar was batting as their lone-warrior in this rather one-sided affair. 

Bowling the penultimate over of his spell, Yash Dayal started stupendously, frustrating Axar with three consecutive dot balls. 

As pressure was building on him, the experienced all-rounder went for a release shot only to get a top-edge off Dayal's full-length delivery much outside the off stump. 

As the ball went straight up in the air, Du Plessis covered a significant distance before catching it safely in the square. 

Thus, Du Plessis, who couldn't contribute much with the bat, helped RCB get Axar's prized scalp when he was looking sublime in the middle. 

Regarding the game, RCB were able to restrict the Capitals to a mere 140-run total, emerging victorious by 47 runs. With this win, the Red Brigade kept their playoff hopes alive, moving to the fifth position in the IPL 2024 points table.
