Patidar in action for RCB in 2022 (IPLT20.COM)
Rajat Patidar, who shot to fame with a prolific IPL 2022 run for the RCB, has been rested from the ongoing 2023 season owing to an injury. The cricketer sustained an Achilles heel injury just prior to the launch of this year’s IPL, after having represented Madhya Pradesh in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season.
Even though Patidar does not falls under BCCI’s centrally contracted players list, the cricket board will be bearing expenses for his surgery. As per recent updates, the 29-year-old will soon take flight for the United Kingdom for further treatment.
BCCI ensures Patidar treatment as he is a “targeted player”
Rajat Patidar was selected in India’s squad for the home series against New Zealand earlier this year, however, he did not feature in the playing XI in any of the games. While the cricketer is yet to make his international debut, he is certainly on BCCI’s radar as confirmed by the cricket board itself.
Speaking on Patidar’s injury update and treatment, a BCCI official said:
“The BCCI will send Patidar for surgery although he is not a centrally contracted player. He is one of the targeted players and we will ensure he gets the best treatment.”
Apart from the RCB star, Team India batter Shreyas Iyer is also about to undergo an operation for his back injury in the UK. The batting veteran sustained the same during the series-deciding Test against Australia in March, thus prompting him to skip the entirety of ensuing IPL 2023 season for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
In an official medical update by the BCCI, Iyer will undergo surgery for his lower back issue next week, following which he will return to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has completed his surgical treatment and has already started his rehabilitation process at the NCA.
Bumrah is expected to regain his match fitness ahead of this year’s ICC ODI World Cup in India, set to commence sometime in October.
