He played a gutsy knock of 145 runs off 289 deliveries and helped India to a respectable total. For Sri Lanka, it was Dhammika Prasad, who was the most successful with four wickets for 100 runs.

India set an unsurmountable target for Sri Lanka in the 4th innings

Going into the second innings with a 111-run lead over the home team, India scored 274. While it was a collective effort by the visitors in the second innings, Rohit Sharma was the highest scorer for them with 50 off 72. The Indian team set a target of 386 for the hosts to chase down in the last and final innings of the game.

Skipper, Angleo Matthews showed great resilience in this chase and scored a gutsy 110 off 240. Kushal Perera, once agains put his hands up with the bat and scored 70 runs. However, these efforts were not enough for the Sri Lankans. Led by Ravichandran Ashwin's 4/69, the Indian team bundled out the hosts for  268 and guided the team to a 117-run win.
