Indian Squad For AUS Series To Be Announced Today; Senior Players To Be Rested?

The Indian team is having a super busy schedule right before the upcoming World Cup 2023. Asia Cup 2023 just ended yesterday and India are scheduled to play three ODIs against Australia which will be taking place in India.

The team for the Australia series is to be announced today at the press conference, where Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar will be addressing the press at 8:30 PM IST. With this hectic schedule and the scare of injuries, many former cricketers believe that there is no point in a series not even a week prior to the World Cup.

The World Cup schedule this time is long and will give nine matches to each of the teams, which seems to be hectic enough. And playing a series this close to the World Cup would be too much for the players. 

Reports suggest that the senior players might be rested for the upcoming series as India would not want to risk their key players ahead of an event like the World Cup. Even in the game against Bangladesh which was a dead rubber, India rested their five players so they could recover for the final.

With a couple of warm-up matches scheduled for teams, India would definitely look to rest players like- Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. They have been playing for a while now and Bumrah is just coming back from injury, so it will be good for them to fully recover before the World Cup 2023.

Considering a few of the players could not get game time in the Asia Cup, this series can turn out to be an important one for guys like Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Tilak Varma and Shardul Thakur.
