In a significant development, there are reports that England are all set to pick an out-of-favour spinner for the upcoming Ashes. Notably, the Three Lions are all set to travel Down Under from November 21 for a five-match Test series.

A report from English media and quoted by News 18, stated that the Ben Stokes-led side are all set to pick 21-year-old Rehan Ahmed as their spinner alongside Shoaib Bashir. England are set to turn their eye away from Liam Dawson, who returned to the national team after eight years against India.

Why Is Rehan Ahmed Returning To the England Team

Rehan made his England debut in 2022 at the age of 18, but played his last against Pakistan in October 2024. However, Rehan had a great season in County Cricket, where the young spinner took 23 wickets in 13 innings.

Rehan was on song as the young spinner picked up two five-wicket hauls. Although interestingly, more than the ball, Rehan impressed with the bat and might earn his comeback because of his show with the bat.

With the bat, Rehan amassed 760 runs in 16 innings, which includes five centuries and averaged 50.

England Struggling With Injuries Ahead Of Ashes

At present, England are sweating hard on a few players' fitness as skipper Ben Stokes himself is injured as he has discomfort in his shoulder, which ruled him out of the fifth Test against India.

Not only Stokes, but fast bowler Chris Woakes is also struggling to regain fitness in time as the much-awaited Ashes starts in just two months. Woakes, who had dislocated his shoulder, avoided surgery so that he can return in time for the Ashes.
