Sanju Samson Clubs 56, Suryakumar Refuses To Bat In India’s 188
Team India batted first and charted 188-8 from 20 overs. Opening batter Abhishek Sharma smeared 38 runs off just 15 balls at the top of the order after the early dismissal of partner Shubman Gill to Shah Faisal. Sanju Samson at number three top-scored in the innings with a fiery 56 off 45 balls with three fours and three huge sixes before becoming Faisal’s (2-23) second victim of the evening.
Axar Patel (26 off 13) and Tilak Varma (29 off 18) clattered brisk cameos in the second half of the innings, while captain and senior man Suryakumar Yadav refused to bat by demoting himself to number 11. For Oman, Jiten Ramanandi (2-33) and Aamir Kaleem (2-31) also picked up two wickets each to assist Shah Faisal’s tight four-over spell.
Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya Survive Oman Scare
Oman started off its 189-run pursuit with a 56-run partnership between openers Aamir Kaleem and Jitender Singh (32 off 33) until the latter got knocked over by Kuldeep Yadav in the ninth over. Kaleem, however, bludgeoned 64 runs off just 46 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes and formed a humongous 93-run stand with fellow half-centurion Hammad Mirza (51 off 33).
Motoring Oman towards a potential win, both Kaleem and Mirza were dismissed in quick succession by Harshit Rana (1-25) and Hardik Pandya (1-26) respectively to tilt the tide back in India’s favour. Arshdeep Singh also picked up a wicket in the final over to complete 100 T20I wickets in the format, as India restricted Oman to 167-4, thus walking away with a comprehensive 21-run win.
