India vs Sri Lanka White-Ball Series In August Unlikely As BCCI Rejects Proposal

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appears set to decline Sri Lanka Cricket's (SLC) proposal to host a white-ball series next month. SLC had stepped forward to fill the gap created by the postponement of India's tour to Bangladesh (originally 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is in August), proposing an equivalent series which has been reportedly declined by BCCI.

BCCI Not Interested In Sri Lanka Tour

Sources indicate the BCCI is not inclined to accept the white-ball series offer. This decision means stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's return to ODI cricket will likely be delayed until the Australia series in October, bypassing any potential August matches.

As per a report from SportsTak, a source familiar with the developments confirmed the series is improbable, stating, "We will decide about the series but it looks unlikely."

Sri Lanka's Mixed Results In Bangladesh Tour

Meanwhile, the recently concluded Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka in 2025 saw a balanced mix of performances across formats, with both sides sharing the honours. The two-match Test series ended 1-0 in Sri Lanka's favour. The momentum carried into the ODIs, where Sri Lanka took the series 2-1.

The T20I series also went down to the wire. Sri Lanka began with a 7-wicket win in the first match, but Bangladesh bounced back in style, winning the second T20I by a massive 83-run margin and securing the final game by 8 wickets, thus clinching the T20I series 2-1.

Focus Shifts to Asia Cup and Later Tours

India's next major white-ball commitment is the Asia Cup 2025, tentatively scheduled to start on September 5th, featuring a high-profile match against Pakistan on September 7th. The BCCI is awaiting government guidance on participation and has the UAE as a contingency host venue.

Following the Asia Cup, India will host Australia for three ODIs in October and South Africa for another three-match ODI series starting November 25th. The cancelled Bangladesh tour has been rescheduled for September 2026.

Currently, India is playing the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy in England, where they are behind with England taking a 2-1 lead, and the fourth Test of the series is to be held in Manchester starting from July 23.
