Team India suffered its biggest-ever margin of defeat in Tests to lose the two-match home series against South Africa 0-2. Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson played decisive knocks in the ongoing 2025-26 Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy. In other news, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza has jumped to the top of the ICC rankings for T20I all-rounders.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Wednesday, November 26.

Pant’s India claim slew of unwanted records as SA seal series 2-0

Led by Rishabh Pant, Team India recorded its biggest-ever margin of defeat, that of 408 runs against South Africa on Day 5 of the series-deciding second Test in Guwahati, handing the visitors a 2-0 series sweep. Summing up India’s misery, no Indian batter managed to score a century in the entire series, and the team failed to cross the 250-run mark even once, the latter of the two being the first instance for India in a home series.

Moreover, the Indian team has only suffered three whitewashes at home in their entire near-century long history. Two of those whitewashes have now occurred within a year of each other, thus putting head coach and overtly experimental Gautam Gambhir in a spotlight he would have preferred to avoid.

Rahane stars, Suryakumar warms up with SMAT 2025 knocks

Defending champions Mumbai crushed Railways by seven wickets in just 15.5 overs in their opening match of the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season. After captain Shardul Thakur and co. restricted Railways to just 158-5 in 20 overs, Mumbai opener and senior man Ajinkya Rahane compiled 62 from just 33 balls with four fours and five huge sixes in Lucknow.

Mumbai’s number three Suryakumar Yadav also smeared 47 off just 30 as the Indian T20I captain warmed himself up for the upcoming home T20I series against South Africa.

Sanju Samson clubs unbeaten fifty for Kerala after SA snub

Kerala opener and captain Sanju Samson clubbed 51 unbeaten runs from just 41 balls against Odisha in their Elite Group A match of the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Lucknow. Chasing 177 for a win, Samson’s fifty, coupled with a whirlwind 60-ball 121* for his opening partner Rohan Kunnummal helped Kerala secure a comprehensive 10-wicket victory in just 16.3 overs.

Sanju Samson’s statement knock occurred mere days after he was dropped from the Indian team for the upcoming South Africa ODI series.

Urvil Patel hammers 31-ball ton for Gujarat in SMAT 2025-26

CSK’s retained star Urvil Patel hammered a 31-ball century to record one of India’s fastest ever hundreds in T20 history, doing so in Gujarat’s opening match of the 2025-26 Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy against Services in Hyderabad. Chasing 183 for a win, the opening batter launched 12 fours and 10 huge sixes to score an unbeaten 119* off just 37 balls as Gujarat mowed down Services’ huge total with relative ease, in just 12.3 overs.

Rohit Sharma and Sikandar Raza on top of ICC rankings

Veteran Indian opener Rohit Sharma reclaimed the number one spot on the ICC ODI rankings for batters, surpassing New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell who dropped a rung below to number two on the latest charts. Zimbabwe cricketer Sikandar Raza also attained the number one ranking, albeit on the all-rounder’s category in T20Is with 289 rating points. He surpassed young Pakistan opening batter and spin bowler Saim Ayub in the process.
