Team India has been dealt a huge blow mere days ahead of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025. Wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia has been ruled out of the tournament, courtesy of a knee injury sustained during training camp in Vizag.

Bhatia, one of India’s most reliable middle-order batters, injured her left knee and has been declared unfit for the marquee event. This comes as a major blow to India, who are the hosts of this year’s World Cup and were counting on her stability behind the stumps and with the bat.

Uma Chetry Roped In As Bhatia’s Replacement

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on September 4 that Uma Chetry will replace Bhatia in India’s ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 squad

The 21-year-old Chetry has played seven T20Is for India so far but is yet to make her ODI debut. This tournament will now provide her with a golden opportunity to showcase her talent on the biggest stage.

Chetry has also been added to the squad for the ODI series against Australia, which will act as India’s final preparation before the World Cup kicks off.

Overall, the absence of Yastika Bhatia leaves a big gap in the side, especially in the batting order, but India will hope that Chetry can step up under pressure.

India Women will begin their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka Women on September 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. They’ll play a total of 7 matches in a round robin format to finish as high as possible on the points table and advance further in the knockout stages.
