Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Wednesday, September 24.
India beat Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four
In recent Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match, India beat Bangladesh by 41 runs to enter the tournament final. Batting first, Abhishek Sharma’s 75 off 37 balls guided India to a decent total of 168/6. In the chase, Saif Hassan led the charge in the absence of captain Litton Das, hitting 69 off 51 balls. However, due to a lack of support from the other end, Bangladesh folded on 127. Kuldeep Yadav picked 3 wickets for India while conceding just 18 runs in 4 overs.
Ravi Ashwin reportedly signs up for the BBL
Ravichandran Ashwin has signed with Sydney Thunder for the BBL 2025-26 season, reuniting with David Warner. After retiring from international cricket, Ashwin will participate in franchise leagues, including the ILT20 starting December 2. His BBL stint will begin post-ILT20, likely limiting him to three or four group-stage matches. Ashwin had previously negotiated with four BBL sides, including the Sydney Sixers, Hobart Hurricanes, and Adelaide Strikers.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi stars in India’s U19 win
India U19 won the second youth ODI against Australia by 51 runs at Ian Healy Oval, Brisbane. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Vihaan Malhotra and Abhigyan Kundu hammered quick 70s to propel India to 300. Jayden Draper's scintillating 107 off 72 balls went in vain as Australia crumbled while chasing. Captain Ayush Mhatre was the star with a winning 3-fer, with Kishan Kumar, Kanishk Chouhan and others lending crucial support.
Shaheen Afridi defends Haris Rauf’s actions
Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi addressed the controversy surrounding Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan’s objectionable gestures during Pakistan’s clash with India, choosing to downplay the issue. In a press conference, Afridi said everybody has a right to express themselves in any way they deem right. He also responded to Suryakumar Yadav’s statement on Indo-Pak rivalry, saying his opinion doesn’t matter to him.
USA cricket is banned by the ICC
In a major setback, the ICC has suspended USA Cricket for repeated breaches of its constitutional obligations, just months before the 2026 T20 World Cup. The decision, taken in a recent board meeting, won’t affect the USA’s participation in the tournament but has cast uncertainty over their cricketing future and even their role in the 2028 LA Olympics. Shockingly, USA Cricket chairman Venu Pisike claimed no prior communication from ICC, leaving the administration in turmoil.
