The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was left spellbound as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) steamrolled Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 10 wickets in Match 57 of IPL 2024 on Wednesday, chasing down a competitive 166-run target in just 9.4 overs.

On what initially appeared to be a sluggish pitch, LSG skipper KL Rahul opted to bat first after winning the toss. Despite a top-order failure, Ayush Badoni (55*) and Nicholas Pooran (48*) stabilized the ship with unbeaten innings, guiding their side to a respectable 165/4.

The duo’s swashbuckling stroke play had the Hyderabad faithful nervously biting their nails, but little did they know what was to come.

Sunrisers’ innings began cautiously with Krishnappa Gowtham keeping things tight in the opening over. However, a boundary off the final ball signalled the oncoming storm.

What unfolded next was sheer carnage as Travis Head (89* off 30) and Abhishek Sharma (75* off 28) tore into the LSG bowling attack with the ferocity of a cyclone.

With a scintillating display of fireworks, the pair bludgeoned 107 runs in the powerplay, leaving the LSG bowlers scrambling for cover.

Gowtham, Naveen-ul-Haq, Yash Thakur, Ayush Badoni, and Ravi Bishnoi were all sent on a leather hunt as Head and Sharma sent the ball soaring to all parts of the park and beyond.

Travis Head bludgeoned eight sixes and as many boundaries in his unbeaten knock, while Abhishek Sharma wasn't far behind, smashing eight fours and six maximums of his own.

Together, the duo amassed 148 of their 167 runs in boundaries, leaving the LSG bowling attack shell-shocked and in tatters.

The cricketing world was abuzz with praise for youngster Abhishek Sharma's audacious stroke play, as netizens took to social media to shower accolades on the young all-rounder, who has been in sensational form in IPL 2024.

Calls for his inclusion in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad grew louder as fans clamoured to see his fearless batting light up the global stage. Here’s how Twitterati reacted to Abhishek Sharma’s batting.

Meanwhile, with this win, SRH has moved one step closer to playoffs qualification and they now have seven wins and five defeats from 12 games. The Pat Cummins-led side needs another win to all but secure their berth in the final four.
