International League T20 (ILT20) 2024 nearing the start, all franchises are busy making final preparations, with the Desert Vipers announcing the inclusion of former Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir into their squad.

Amir joins many home country-based players at Vipers, who already have Pakistan's T20I captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, star all-rounder Shadab Khan, and explosive wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan in their pool of players.

Amir, 31, brings vast experience of bowling into the Vipers' bowling attack, having played in 259 T20s across various leagues and clinching 303 wickets.

In 50 T20Is, Amir claimed 59 wickets, including six in the ICC T20 World Cup 2009, which Pakistan won under Younis Khan's captaincy.

Apart from Pakistan players, the Vipers also have international players like Alex Hales, Colin Munro, Dinesh Chandimal, Sheldon Cottrell, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Matheesha Pathirana. Amir most likely comes in as a cover for the injured Tom Curran, whose participation in ILT20 remains uncertain.

The second season of the UAE-based T20 league starts on January 19 and will end on February 17. The 34-match edition will take place across three cities — Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

In the inaugural season, the Vipers finished as runner-up, losing to winners Gulf Giants in the 2023 final by seven wickets.
