In a significant development, the International Cricket Council (ICC) banned Zimbabwe Women's young spinner Kelis Ndhlovu from bowling in international cricket. The apex body sanctioned the promising cricketer after she was found guilty of using an illegal bowling action.
ICC Bans Zimbabwe Player From Bowling In International Cricket
Hailed as one of the most promising players from Zimbabwe, Kelis Ndhlovu grabbed the limelight following his exceptional spell, including a five-wicket over, against the Eagles Women in the T20 cup semifinal.
However, her international career was jeopardised after the match officials reported her action during the first One-Day encounter against Ireland Women on July 26 in Belfast.
After being called out for a suspect bowling action, the left-arm off-spin bowler underwent an assessment in Pretoria. The report from the test verified the match officials' claims, prompting the ICC to suspend her from bowling.
Therefore, according to Article 6.1 of the ICC bowling regulations, the spinner won't be allowed to bowl in international cricket until she comes up with a remodelled action and clears the re-assessment test.
Kelis Ndhlovu made her international debut for Zimbabwe Women in a T20 International against Namibia Women at Windhoek in April 2022. She played her first ODI against Thailand Women in Bangkok a year later.
Overall, the 19-year-old cricketer has featured in 13 ODIs and 51 T20Is, showcasing her all-round brilliance in white-ball cricket. Besides scalping 63 wickets across formats, Ndhlovu has slammed 1014 runs combined, including three half-centuries.
Talking about Zimbabwe Women, they lost to their Irish counterparts by four wickets, suffering an embarrassing 2-0 defeat in the ODI series. Up next, they will participate in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Africa Region Division One Qualifier, where they'll take on Namibia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
