In a significant development, the West Indies women's cricketers, Aaliyah Alleyne and Qiana Joseph, have been fined for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second ODI against South Africa in Barbados.
The incident took place during West Indies’ innings when both players displayed dissent at the umpire’s decision, violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with "showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match."
Fines and Demerit Points Imposed
Aaliyah Alleyne was fined 10 percent of her match fee and received one demerit point after reacting to her dismissal with a gesture involving open arms and delaying her departure from the crease.
In a more severe instance, Qiana Joseph was fined 50 percent of her match fee and handed two demerit points for her more forceful show of dissent after being given out. The charges were brought forward by the on-field umpiring team Jacqueline Williams and Nimali Perera, along with third umpire Candace la Borde and fourth umpire Maria Abbott.
Both players admitted to the offense and accepted the sanctions proposed by Akhtar Ahmad, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, thereby avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
A Level 1 breach is the least serious category under the ICC Code of Conduct and can carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a maximum fine of 50 percent of the match fee and up to two demerit points.
Quick Recap Of The Match
SA Women sealed a convincing 166-run win over WI Women in the third and final ODI at the Three Ws Oval, wrapping up the three-match series 2-1. The match was defined by a brilliant century from Tazmin Brits and a composed knock from skipper Laura Wolvaardt.
After multiple rain interruptions, the contest was shortened, and South Africa’s revised total was set at 288 runs under the DLS method. WI, in reply, faltered under scoreboard pressure and were bowled out for 121, handing the Proteas a resounding victory.
