Umesh Yadav Aims For A Strong Comeback (Source: @y_umesh/x.com)
Despite being the breeding ground of unreal cricket talents, Team India has some forgotten heroes. Umesh Yadav is one of them, as the ace pacer has not been seen in Team India’s jersey for a long time.
After nearly two years away from the team, the pacer has voiced his hunger for a comeback, revealing he’s putting in the hard yards for a return to remember.
Umesh Yadav’s Aim To Comeback
After Umesh Yadav made his debut for Team India found an ace pacer for the side. Known for raw pace and ability to swing the ball in both ways, he has been a match-winner for the side. But the rhythm was disrupted after the 2023 WTC final against Australia. After that heavy defeat in the match, he has been away from the side for a long time now.
After the long absence, the speedster is aiming to make a triumphant return. Speaking to Sports Tak, quoted by India Today, he said that, even though the selection is not in his hands, he is trying hard to make a strong comeback.
“Efforts to make a comeback are complete. I cannot select myself. I will have to play some matches, get fit. To come back, I will have to play competitive cricket. My effort is to get fit and come back in the team,” the pacer said.
Fast Bowlers Aren’t Built, They’re Born
Being one of the best fast bowlers of India, Umesh Yadav secured 170 wickets in 57 Test matches with an economy rate of 3.51. In 75 ODIs and 9 T20s, he secured 106 and 12 wickets. Despite such a stellar career, Umesh admits he never imagined playing for India. Reflecting on his journey, he believes true fast bowlers aren’t made, they’re born.
“When I started playing cricket, I never thought that I will play this, I will play that, I would play for India. I am a natural fast bowler. I have been bowling fast since childhood. I never went to any academy or nets. That is why I never thought that I would play for India.” he said.
“I kept on playing. Someone told me to play this, someone told me to play that. While playing, the son of a coal miner is sitting here playing for India. I think some things that are meant to happen, happen. I always say that fast bowlers are natural; you cannot make them fast bowlers,” he added.
In recent times, the bowler has seen struggling with his form. A quiet domestic season, followed by going unsold in the IPL 2025 auction has added to his challenges.
