On Thursday, March 27, Sunrisers Hyderabad locked horns against Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, where the visitors stunned the Men in Orange. The Rishabh Pant-led side handed SRH a five-wicket defeat to register their first win of the tournament.
It was a high-octane game filled with drama. Notably, social media was buzzing as the match was also marred with a few controversies. Firstly, Rishabh Pant and Harshal Patel hogged the internet after Patel's high-full toss was deemed legal, resulting in Pant's wicket.
Harshal Patel Lands In Hot Waters vs LSG
Questions were raised over the legality of that delivery, but Hawk-eye replay shrugged off those concerns. Meanwhile, Patel has again landed in hot waters as the fans have objected to his catch to dismiss Ayush Badoni.
Notably, Patel took a great running catch to dismiss Ayush Badoni. However, he released the ball too early, and the fans are accusing him of cheating. There are questions raised over Patel's catch, and the fans have remarked that the right-arm seamer was in motion when he released the ball. Watch the catch here.
Did Harshal Patel Cheat? What Does The ICC Rule Suggest?
Firstly, there was no appeal from the opposition regarding the fairness of the catch. Thus, no controversy erupted while the game was on. However, looking at the video, it did appear that Patel was still in motion when he released the ball. Had LSG appealed, there were chances that the decision might have gone in their favour. Meanwhile, here is what ICC rules suggest regarding a clean catch in cricket.
"The act of making a catch shall start from the time when the ball first comes into contact with a fielder’s person and shall end when a fielder obtains complete control over both the ball and his own movement."
Shubman Gill was also caught in a similar situation during the Champions Trophy 2025 during India's match against Australia.
