On Thursday, March 27, Lucknow Super Giants beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets to register their first win of the tournament. The Rishabh Pant-led humiliated the Men in Orange at their home ground.

Shardul Thakur was the man who created the difference as his four-wicket haul restricted SRH to just 190 runs. In reply, LSG chased down the target in just 16.1 overs. Talking about Shardul, the right-arm seamer is creating a storm in IPL 2025 as the right-arm seamer is currently the purple cap-holder with six wickets.

For the unversed, it is worth noting that Thakur went unsold in IPL 2025 mega-auction, but was brought in by LSG as a replacement for Mohsin Khan, who was ruled out of the tournament with injury. He featured in the match against DC, where he took two wickets in the opening over.

During the mid-inning show in SRH vs LSG match, Shardul was presented with purple cap. Now it has made fans curious as to whether any replacement has ever won a orange or purple cap in IPL history.

For the unversed, it is worth noting that Chris Gayle is one player who has an IPL award to his name in the season where he went unsold and won the orange cap as a replacement.  Gayl, who unsold in the 2010 auction, was signed as a replacement for Dirk Nannes, former Australian pacer by Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Chris Gayle had a brilliant season as he amassed 608 runs, which included 44 sixes and won the orange cap that edition.
