With unreal excitement, each evening is more exciting with the IPL 2025. As Sunrisers Hyderabad faced Lucknow Super Giants in their last game, things didn’t turn in their way as they faced their first defeat of the season.
After the openers fell early, SRH struggled to regain momentum, leading to a disappointing defeat. After that, questions were raised over SRH’s dependency on the opening duo. However, Heinrich Klaasen silenced the critics with a sharp response, dismissing the concerns with confidence.
Is SRH Too Dependent On The Head-Abhishek Duo?
The last match against the Lucknow Super Giants ended up with a disappointing defeat. As the Travis Head-Abhishek Sharma duo is a massive strength in SRH’s top order, their failure in the last game deepened the woes.
Though Head scored 47 runs, Abhishek was dismissed, scoring only 6 runs, while the other batters remained ineffective. This sparked debates about the team’s over-reliance on their opening pair. When questioned about it, Heinrich Klaasen dismissed the worries, saying the team has enough skilled players to post a big total even if Head and Abhishek don’t deliver.
“Not at all. If we look at our batting lineup, we are destructive till batter No.8. We don't need Travis and Abhishek to come off everytime. We're good enough to score without them as well. They put teams under pressure when they come off and makes our jobs easier.” Klaasen said.
“You will never have a season where both of them will score more than 1000 runs. It's the way we play, a bit on the riskier side. But no. We have big enough players to know that we need to do it by ourselves as well,” he added.
Klaasen On The Defeat
Known for destructive batting, SRH struggled in this department in their last clash. Abhishek Sharma fell early, Ishan Kishan departed for a golden duck, and both Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen couldn’t turn their starts into big knocks. With those woes, they ended up scoring 190. But when Klaasen was asked about the defeat, Klaasen felt they were short of few runs.
“We didn't score enough runs. 210-220 was par score. 1 or 2 unlucky wickets. One caught down the leg side, one hit off the bowler's hands and on to the stumps. It's part of the game. We didn't score enough runs on a good wicket.” he said.
After that, the last defeat, Sunrisers Hyderabad, is set to face Delhi Capitals in their upcoming match on March 30. After a heartbreaking defeat, Pat Cummins and Co. will be eyeing a stronger bounce back.
