In the ongoing match between Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, a controversy has erupted in the 2nd innings after Rishabh Pant was given out on a high full-toss by Harshal Patel. The incident occurred in the 15th over of the match when Patel bowled an unexpected high full-toss and Pant failed to smash it for a boundary, rather handed an easy catch to Mohammed Shami.

Why Was Rishabh Pant Given Out In LSG vs SRH Match?

The umpires opted for a review and the replay showed that Pant was out of the popping crease when he played that shot. The rule book clearly suggest that the waist height is measured from the popping crease. Thus, the third umpire compared the full-toss' height from Pant's waist height from the popping crease, which showed that it was a legal delivery.

Notably, Pant's waist measurement as per the IPL is 0.98 m, while the full-toss was 0.95 m high, which is why the delivery was deemed legal by the third umpire. Further, Virat Kohli was also given out in a similar manner in IPL 2024.

The BCCI made several rule changes in IPL in the past few years and one of them was to use hawk-eye technology for waist-high no-balls. Notably, the IPL has already taken the measurements of waist-high and they just compare it with the height of the ball from the ground. The rule has been effective over the years as it makes the league devoid of any controversy.
