Hardik Pandya returns, Gill subject to fitness clearance as IND’s squad for SA T20Is revealed

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match series between India and South Africa. As rumoured, Hardik Pandya is set to return with full fitness, while Shubman Gill has been picked despite being semi-fit.

In other developments, Suryakumar Yadav will continue leading the side, with Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar all having found a place. Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma have been picked as wicket-keeping options, while Jasprit Bumrah will return to lead the pace attack comprising Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh.

Meanwhile, Varun Chakaravarthy has been added as the sole spinner in the squad, as Kuldeep Yadav is set to miss due to marriage.

South Africa under pressure after Tests success

This is South Africa’s multi-format tour of India, which began with a two-match Test series. The Proteas, the current WTC champs, had put on a decent show to complete a 2-0 sweep there. However, they failed to carry on the momentum in the ODIs, having lost the series opener by 17 runs. In fact, they are not in a great position to level the ODI series either in Raipur.

As mentioned above, all the T20Is between India and South Africa will begin at 7 PM IST. The venues for the shortest format matches are Cuttack, New Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Lucknow and Ahmedabad respectively.
