SRH's IPL 2025 Playoffs Qualification Scenario Dwindle After Loss To Gujarat Titans

Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) chances of qualifying for the IPL 2025 playoffs took a significant hit after their 38-run defeat to Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 2. The loss leaves SRH in a precarious position, needing to win all their remaining matches while also relying on favourable results from other teams.

SRH's Qualification Scenario After GT Loss

Before the match, SRH had six points from nine games, with a narrow path to the playoffs that required them to win most of their remaining games. Now, after their tenth match, SRH has only three wins. Their qualification chances now hinge on a complex combination of factors:

  • Must-Win Remaining Matches: SRH needs to win all their remaining four matches to reach 14 points. Even then, qualification is not guaranteed.
  • Net Run Rate (NRR): SRH's NRR took a battering after the loss. They need to win their remaining games by significant margins to improve their NRR and stay ahead of other teams eyeing for a playoff spot.
  • Reliance on Other Teams' Results: Even with 14 points and a healthy NRR, SRH's fate depends on the outcome of other teams' matches. If multiple teams finish with 16 or more points, SRH's chances diminish considerably.
  • Two More Losses = Elimination: As it stood before the match against Gujarat Titans, two more defeats would spell the end of SRH's campaign. Now, one more defeat and it would spell the end of their campaign.

GT Dominates SRH In Style At Ahmedabad

In a must-win game for SRH, GT posted a formidable total of 224/6, with Shubman Gill (76 off 38), Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler (64 off 37) leading the charge. SRH's chase faltered despite quickfire innings from Abhishek Sharma (74 off 41).

The middle order collapsed against a disciplined GT bowling attack, leaving SRH struggling at 149/6 after 17 overs. Ultimately, they finished at 186/6, falling short by 38 runs.
