It was a jam-packed day in the world of cricket on Saturday, March 29 as Gujarat Titans outclassed Mumbai Indians in a high-voltage IPL clash in Ahmedabad while BCCI’s much-awaited central contracts meeting was postponed, reportedly due to Gautam Gambhir’s vacation.

Over in Australia, South Australia scripted history with their first Sheffield Shield title in 29 years, and in New Zealand, Mark Chapman powered the hosts to an emphatic win over Pakistan, who also found themselves in hot water after conceding a whopping 43 extras.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Saturday, March 29.

Gujarat Titans Outclass Mumbai Indians by 36 Runs in IPL 2025

Gujarat Titans registered a dominant 36-run win over Mumbai Indians in Match 9 of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Batting first, GT posted a huge 196/8, thanks to Sai Sudharsan’s 63 and Buttler’s 39. MI’s bowlers leaked runs despite Hardik Pandya’s 2/29.

In reply, MI stumbled early with Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton falling cheaply. Suryakumar Yadav’s 48 brought some hope but the chase fizzled out after Hardik’s slow 11-run knock ended the fight.

Prasidh Krishna (2/18) and Siraj (2/34) starred with the ball as MI could only manage 160/6, slumping to their second straight defeat.

BCCI Postpones Crucial Central Contracts Meeting

The BCCI has postponed its key meeting scheduled for March 29 in Guwahati, which was to finalise central contracts and discuss India’s upcoming Test tour of England.

No new date has been announced and the reason for the delay remains undisclosed, though reports suggest Gautam Gambhir’s family vacation may be a factor.

The meeting was set to decide the futures of senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Bumrah while potential comebacks for Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Varun Chakravarthy were also on the agenda. India's England Test series begins June 20 in Leeds.

South Australia Break 29-Year Drought with Thrilling Sheffield Shield Final Win Over Queensland

South Australia ended a 29-year drought by winning the 2024-25 Sheffield Shield final as they trounced Queensland by 4 wickets in a thrilling chase at Adelaide. Set 270 to win, SA recovered from 28/3 as Jason Sangha (126*) and Alex Carey (105) stitched a match-winning 202-run stand.

Earlier, Brendan Doggett starred with match figures of 11/140, including a sensational 6/31 in the first innings, bundling Queensland out for just 95.

Despite centuries from Clayton and Wildermuth in Queensland’s second innings, SA held their nerve. Sangha fittingly struck the winning runs and sealed a historic victory and sparking wild celebrations at Karen Rolton Oval.

Mark Chapman’s Ton Powers New Zealand To 73-Run Win Over Pakistan In 1st ODI At Napier

New Zealand beat Pakistan by 73 runs in the 1st ODI at McLean Park in Napier to go 1-0 up in the series. Batting first, NZ posted a mammoth 344/9, powered by Mark Chapman’s 132 off 111 and Daryl Mitchell’s 76. Muhammad Abbas smashed a 26-ball 52 late in the innings.

Chasing 345, Pakistan were in the game at 249/4 with Babar Azam (78) and Agha Salman (58) fighting hard but a late collapse saw them fold for 271 in 44.1 overs. Nathan Smith picked up 4/60. Chapman was named Player of the Match for his match-winning ton.

Pakistan Concede 43 Extras In ODI Horror Show Against New Zealand

Pakistan’s bowling unit completely lost the plot in the first ODI against New Zealand at Napier, gifting the hosts 43 extras, their third-highest in ODI history.

Sloppy lines, poor discipline and lack of control allowed New Zealand to post a massive 344/9 with Mark Chapman leading the charge with a superb 132.

Chasing 345, Pakistan showed flashes of fight through Babar Azam (78) and Agha Salman (58) but the damage was already done. The extras alone proved costly, turning the game decisively in New Zealand’s favour. It was a forgettable outing for Pakistan, with extras telling the real story.
