GT beats MI In IPL 2025 [Source: @IPL/X.com]
In a dominant performance, GT beat MI by 36 runs in the 9th fixture of the IPL 2025 season. Batting first, Sai Sudharsan’s carnage helped GT post a 196-run par total. Moreover, Siraj and Prasidh Krishna’s lethal spells rattled Mumbai in the second inning as despite Suryakumar Yadav’s 48 off 28 balls, MI ended up 36 runs short and lost the second straight game in the IPL 2025 season.
Here’s how GT vs MI panned out in Ahmedabad:
Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill Take MI Bowlers Class
Mumbai Indians won the toss and Hardik Pandya elected to bowl first. However, pacer Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult were taken to the cleaners in the powerplay by GT openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. They knitted a 78-run opening partnership, with Sudharsan smashing 61 off 41 balls.
Jos Buttler, who is demoted to no.3 this year, also contributed with 39 off 24 balls. Meanwhile, MI bowlers struggled massively. Boult and Chahar conceded 34 and 39 runs respectively while picking up one wicket each. Mujeeb-Ul-Rahman, who played in place of Vignesh Puthur, bowled only 2 overs and conceded 28 runs.
GT Finishes With A Par Total
Hardik Pandya controlled the scoring rate to some extent by dismissing Shubman Gill and Shahrukh Khan at the right time and conceded 29 runs in four overs. However, youngster Satyanarayan conceded 40 runs in his 3 overs to allow GT to post a par total of 196 runs on the board.
While Narendra Modi Stadium’s pitch appeared to be a flat track, the total proved to be steep for the mighty batting lineup of Mumbai Indians.
Siraj Castles Rohit Sharma With Ripper
Mumbai Indians had an ugly start to the chase as former captain Rohit Sharma was castled by Mohammed Siraj. That was a dream delivery for Siraj as it skidded off the surface, sneaking through Rohit's defence, and rattling the top of the bails. Rohit went back scoring 8 runs off 4 balls.
However, the pacer was in no mood to rest. To maximise the powerplay for GT, he bowled Ryan Rickelton to send him packing on just six runs. MI were reduced to 35/2 in 4.3 overs which was just the beginning of their woes.
MI Outplayed By Dominant GT
Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma knitted a 63-run important partnership for the third wicket. However, Prasidh Krishna got the breakthrough to dismiss Varma on 39 off 36 balls. Moreover, Surya’s fighting knock was also ended by Krishna as he forced him out on 48 off 28 balls. When Surya got dismissed, MI still needed 67 runs to win in 4 overs.
While the responsibility of the chase fell on Hardik Pandya’s shoulders, GT bowlers didn’t allow him a single chance to hit. He played 17 balls and managed to score only 11 runs as MI dipped further in the chase. Eventually, MI fell short of 36 runs as GT extended his dominant win record in Ahmedabad.
