In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to postpone the much-awaited meeting that was scheduled to take place in Guwahati on Saturday, March 29. The meeting, which was to focus on central contracts and preparations for the upcoming England tour, has been delayed and no new date has been announced yet and the reason for the delay has also not been disclosed.

However, it was believed that Gautam Gambhir is on vacation with his family and this could likely be the reason to postpone the meeting. (according to the reports of NDTV Sports)

“As of now, there's no real clarity on when that meeting could happen now – either after second IPL game in Guwahati or in the first week of April. But whatever conversation happens in that meeting in future, all relevant details are believed to be coming out in public domain soon after,” said sources aware of the development to IANS.

BCCI Meeting Delayed On Central Contracts

The meeting was expected to finalise the central contracts for the upcoming season, the future of players in the Test format, and the England tour. It is important to mention that among the key topics are the fate of players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja, all of whom are expected to retain their A-plus contracts.

Additionally, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, who were omitted from the central contracts list last year are anticipated to make a comeback. Varun Chakravarthy, who was a key player in India's Champions Trophy victory, is also expected to be added to the central contracts list.

India's Test Future Under Scrutiny Ahead of England Tour

Apart from the central contracts, the BCCI meeting was also set to address the future of the Indian Test team. Following a run of disappointing performances in the longest format, discussions were to focus on player availability and their roles in the upcoming England tour.

India is set to play a five-match Test series in England, with the first match scheduled to begin on June 20 in Leeds.
